Consultation with Jefferson County

Save Scenic Jefferson Valley Coalition

The Jefferson County Commissioners have prevailed in a lawsuit demanding that Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) consult with Jefferson County in planning the proposed Mountain States Transmission Intertie (MSTI) through our county.

Jefferson County filed suit in the Fifth District Court demanding a voice in planning MSTI as it is potentially routed through Jefferson County.  See this Montana Standard article, May 20, 2010.

The following documents pertain to Jefferson County’s invocation of its rights to consultation:

Montana Fifth District Court has ruled (Sept. 8, 2010) that Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) must consult with Jefferson County in planning stage of MSTI.  Link to update PDF on JeffCo Ruling.

Unfortunately for the public, DEQ has chosen to appeal the Montana Fifth District Court’s ruling rather than comply with it. The matter is now before the Montana Supreme Court.
